Keinfar

From a distance before even reaching Keinfar you are graced with incredible lights and colors that press and heave in an undulating rhythm against the horizon. A miasmic cube of energy floats above the city shifting between a mind-bending assortment of colors and shapes that always seems to settle on a cube of infinite color and complexity. Shards from this rainbow colored fractal hover silently against the sky, standing vigil and reflecting the debauchery throughout the streets below. Magical light snakes through the streets of Keinfar in all colors and intensities creating dazzling and unique patterns that pulse and beat with an unfamiliar cadence. The city is distinctly split between three levels- the Ground, the Middle Ring, and the Upper Ring. The Ground is the lowest rung of society and houses many of the miscreants and trouble-makers. The Middle Ring is a floating ring of land that sits a few hundred feet in the air and houses the more mercantile of the citizens. With the Upper Ring being the pinnacle of Keinfar life, brushing the clouds and reaching to the heavens in an act of defiance.

But as you approach, you find yourself facing a forboding blank wall that encompasses the entirety of the city. The entrances of this wall are guarded heavily for one reason - the distribution of masks. Keinfar is a city of false demeanor and infectious pride; all citizens that pass through the gates are issued a mask that gains different properties the higher in the city you are allowed to go.

On the Ground Level, the mask stays a flat matte white with simplified expressions denoting what the character is thinking. Many have remarked that this first type of mask looks strikingly similar to "comedy and tragedy" masks seen in theater halls around the continent. Rumor has it, altering these facial expressions to not give away your basest thoughts is possible, but takes an incredible force of will and quite a bit of practice.

On the Middle Ring you are met with a change in your mask, it becomes more colorful and actually looks similar to a face. Though, with a discerning eye you can see that this new face is slightly fuzzy and seems to emit a light all of its own to cast that face permanently in the most beautiful light possible. Lastly and most remarkably, the face that appears on your mask is almost never your own.

Finally, on the Upper Ring the mask makes you look breathtakingly attractive in both physique and in facial features, to any creature that lays eyes upon you. The exact means of this are not well known, as access to the Upper Ring is extremely difficult to obtain.

Street Aesthetic

On the Ground Level of Keinfar, everywhere you look you see grime, mud, human waste, and rust. Even just existing down in this district makes you feel filthy from the inside-out. In nearly every window you see the sale of flesh and services all attempting to draw the interest of passersby, each vendor under-cutting their competitor to get the most business. Hawkers line the streets haphazardly, trying to aggressively ply their wares in a vain attempt to reach the rings above them. Everything about this district is almost unbearable, but the sickly sweet stench of decay mixes with the wafting of pleasures to create an intoxicating recipe of disgust and desire.

Ground Level

Upon entering the Middle Ring, you are greeted with a veritable explosion of green. Trees, shrubs, grasses, and flowers adorn this district like a homemade floral circlet. The homes in this district look similar to the architecture of New Orleans' French Quarter (a picture can be found here) and are filled with all manner of artisans and shops. The same businesses that are found on the Ground Level (mainly prostitution and vices) can be found here, but they are better maintained and less sketchy.

Middle Ring

Upper Ring

The Upper Ring is the pinnacle of wealth and opulence. Down on the lower rings you may have rules and strictures to prevent people from harming any merchandise or causing harm - but that is not the case on the Upper Ring. Nearly anything goes in the brothels, casinos, and drug houses of the Upper. You can kill, steal, murder, and cheat with no repercussions from any kind of authority, the people police themselves - and be wary, for they are cruel and creative in their punishments. The few who have been admitted to the Upper say that death doesn't function the same way up there than it does on the lower rings, but refused to elaborate how.
