The Infinite Forest is incomprehensible to even the greatest masters, and outright maddening to the novice. Considered to be the cause of the Shatter and thereby the cause of uncountable deaths throughout the region, the Forest is widely avoided and despised. Some time after the Shatter when times were peaceful but tentative, a group of townsfolk formed to destroy the cursed forest and finally rid themselves of this bane of power known as Magic. With torches in hand, they gathered around a mile-wide area of the Forest and started to burn the various trees and brush as thoroughly as possible. Celebrating their success, the townsfolk watched the Forest burn and crackle for miles while roasting animals and gorging themselves on a feast of game and produce. That evening after the festivities, the Forest suddenly shook violently as if a great beast were shaking off a parasite and within an instant the Forest was replenished, as if the trees had never been burned. In fact, the trees that were replaced were a type never before seen in the region.

From that day forwards everyone knew that the Forest was truly infinite, both in its depth and vitality.
